Neon Genesis Evangelion (1995)

Gainax's Neon Genesis Evangelion follows teenage pilots pressed into defending Tokyo-3 from the Angels, then turns its giant-robot premise inward as the psychological cost of that duty overwhelms them. The watch connection has arrived only through official collaborations built years after the series aired: Seiko and Imperial Enterprise released a PREMICO chronograph honoring the real "Evangelion Shinkansen" train in 2022, followed by a second, fictional-livery model in 2025; Citizen and the in-house RADIO EVA brand released three Unit-themed watches in 2022, the licensed A.T.FIELD EVANGELION WORK line added a shock-detecting NERV-branded chronograph in January 2023, Casio's G-Shock arrived first through RADIO EVA's two EVANGELION STORE originals of 2020 and 2021 and then marked the anime's 30th anniversary with its own model in 2025, Kentex followed with an EVAR x MOTO-R chronograph the same year, Seiko closed out the anniversary with a RADIO EVA Prospex diver in December 2025, and GARRACK added a three-model raden (mother-of-pearl inlay) mechanical collection in June 2026, none of them placing a watch on a character on screen. Imperial Enterprise released this 5,000-piece Seiko chronograph on October 31, 2022 through PREMICO under license from JR West, marking the 25th anniversary of the 500 series Shinkansen and honoring the real "Evangelion Shinkansen" (500 TYPE EVA) that ran the San'yo Shinkansen line from November 2015 to May 2018. Its purple-gradient dial echoes Unit-01's coloring, with a gold NERV-styled roundel at 12 o'clock and a parabolic tachymeter bezel evoking the train's long nose; no character wears the watch on screen. Imperial Enterprise released this 5,000-piece Seiko chronograph on November 10, 2025 through PREMICO, marking the anime's 30th anniversary and the 10th anniversary of the Shinkansen Henkei Robo Shinkalion franchise.
