The sportswriter Frank Deford's 1976 novel charts the rise and fall of Duncan Radnor, a porcelain-and-enamel magnate who buys hockey and basketball franchises for Fort Zachary because outmaneuvering other owners is the only game he cares about. One of those owners comes to his fireside late at night to talk a deal. (Open Library)
