Otsuka Lotec

Otsuka Lotec is a Tokyo independent watchmaker founded by automotive and industrial designer Jiro Katayama, who began selling watches under the name in 2012. "Otsuka" names the Tokyo neighborhood where the watches are assembled, and "Lotec" is Katayama's own shorthand for "low-tech," reflecting an industrial, camera-inspired design language built around jumping-hour displays, rotating discs, and exposed mechanical structures. Katayama produces fewer than 200 watches a year, sold only to buyers with a Japanese credit card and address, and in November 2024 the Japanese labor ministry recognized him as a "gendai no meiko" (contemporary master craftsman); the brand's No. 6 model won the Challenge Watch Prize at the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève.
