Vulcain

Vulcain is a Swiss watchmaker founded in 1858 in La Chaux-de-Fonds by the four Ditisheim brothers, who registered the Vulcain name in 1900. Five years developing a separate mainspring barrel and resonating case back for the alarm problem led to the 1947 Cricket, the first mechanical wristwatch with a genuinely audible alarm; Harry Truman's example made it a fixture on the wrists of American presidents through Eisenhower, Johnson, and Nixon, earning the "Watch of Presidents" reputation. Vulcain relocated to Le Locle after a 2001 relaunch under new ownership, reviving the Cricket caliber for a modern line. (Vulcain)
