John Landis's 1986 comedy stars Steve Martin, Chevy Chase and Martin Short as silent-film cowboys Lucky Day, Dusty Bottoms and Ned Nederlander, who mistake a Mexican village's plea for help against the bandit El Guapo for a paid personal appearance. Worn by Chevy Chase as Dusty Bottoms. Dusty's pocket watch, carried "throughout the film before gifting it to a local child in the finale", sold at Propstore's Planet Hollywood online auction in June 2025 with a Planet Hollywood certificate and a 1997 Superior Stamp & Coin provenance: "this vintage American Watch Co. features a steel bow, crown, and case body with a glass crystal", with fleur-de-lis hands and a seconds subdial at six. American Watch Co. is the Waltham factory's own nineteenth-century signature, so the dial names the maker in its period form; the essay gives no grade, movement or serial. It also reports the watch stopped on a dead battery, which no original American Watch Co. movement would have, so the case may carry a later movement; the lot does not say. (Propstore)
