A mountain climber becomes trapped under a boulder while canyoneering alone near Moab, Utah and resorts to desperate measures in order to survive. (IMDb) Directed by Danny Boyle, who co-wrote the screenplay with Simon Beaufoy, the biographical drama adapts Aron Ralston's memoir Between a Rock and a Hard Place and dramatises the five days he spent pinned by a boulder in Utah's Bluejohn Canyon in April 2003. James Franco plays Ralston, with Kate Mara and Amber Tamblyn as hikers he meets in the canyons, Clémence Poésy as a former girlfriend, and Treat Williams, Kate Burton and Lizzy Caplan as his family; the film premiered at the Telluride Film Festival on 4 September 2010 and opened in US cinemas that November. Suunto Vector

Worn by James Franco as Aron Ralston. Franco's Ralston wears a Suunto Vector, the altimeter-barometer-compass watch that doubles as the film's clock across the five days pinned in Bluejohn Canyon. Suunto's own US newsroom flagged the appearance as the film opened, crediting the Vector with tracking the hours of the ordeal on screen. (Suunto USA News) The film returns to the watch in close-up as the hours run down, and those inserts show a yellow polyamide case marked SUUNTO, the black rotating compass bezel graduated 00 to 330, the levelling bubble set into the glass, and a positive display, dark segments on a light field, whose mode bar reads ALTI, BARO and COMP. The particular generation stays open.
