Mel Smith's comedy takes the near-silent television character to America: London's Royal National Gallery, desperate to be rid of its worst guard, sends Mr. Bean (Rowan Atkinson) to Los Angeles as the learned "Dr. Bean" to present Whistler's Mother to the Grierson Gallery, where curator David Langley (Peter MacNicol) takes him into his home and watches his family, his career and the painting come apart. Pamela Reed plays Alison Langley and Burt Reynolds the painting's buyer, General Newton. PolyGram Filmed Entertainment released it in 1997. (IMDb; Wikipedia)

Casio Databank

Worn by Rowan Atkinson as Mr. Bean. Profiles in History's sale of Atkinson's complete screen-worn costume, archived by Heritage Auctions as lot 1840, lists it piece by piece: "green tweed jacket with leather elbow patches and leather cuff reinforcers, white shirt, brown wool pants, leather belt, black leather Oxford shoes, red necktie with blue spots and Casio digital "databank" watch." The essay adds that Bean "is virtually always wearing this standard garb", which makes the keypad Casio as much a part of the uniform as the tweed and the red tie, a fussy schoolboy gadget on a man who behaves like one. The lot names Casio and the Databank line and no model; a decade later Mr. Bean's Holiday put a Casio DBC-610, a Databank model, on the same wrist. (Heritage Auctions lot 1840)
