Watches

Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Ultra Thin Perpetual
Worn by Benedict Cumberbatch as Stephen Strange. The broken perpetual calendar returns as an emotional anchor across universes. Jaeger-LeCoultre confirmed before release that the Master Ultra Thin Perpetual Calendar seen in Strange's watch box in the 2016 film would feature again here, and Quill & Pad's preview singles out a production still of Strange "playing watchmaker" with it, the repair the frame above preserves; the piece is the 39 mm calibre 868 perpetual with moon phase at twelve, engraved on the back "Time will tell you how much I love you, Christine." (Quill & Pad) Hodinkee, crediting props to Barry Gibbs, follows the same watch into the sequel: the film opens on a bedside close-up of every crack in the sapphire, Strange wears it with a tuxedo to Christine's wedding, a flashback shows Christine (Rachel McAdams) giving it to him over dinner, and in a scene at 177A Bleecker Street he fits a new crystal, shot from the watch's point of view on the table. The column notes Cumberbatch's ambassadorship for Jaeger-LeCoultre and gives no timestamps. (Hodinkee)
