Don't Look Up (2021)

From IMWDb
Don't Look Up

Two low-level astronomers must go on a giant media tour to warn humankind of an approaching comet that will destroy planet Earth. (IMDb) Written and directed by Adam McKay as a satire of political and media indifference to existential threats, the Hyperobject Industries and Bluegrass Films production premiered in New York on 5 December 2021, opened in limited theatrical release on 10 December and reached Netflix on 24 December. Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence play the astronomers Dr Randall Mindy and Kate Dibiasky, with Meryl Streep as President Janie Orlean, Jonah Hill as her chief of staff Jason, Cate Blanchett as talk-show host Brie Evantee, Mark Rylance as tech billionaire Peter Isherwell and Rob Morgan as NASA planetary-defense chief Dr Teddy Oglethorpe. Watches

Casio AE1200WHD-1A
Worn by Rob Morgan as Teddy Oglethorpe. Oglethorpe, the NASA planetary-defense chief, wears the stainless-banded version of Casio's ten-band world timer, the digital watch collectors nickname the "Casio Royale", a sub-$50 counterpoint to the six-figure Richard Mille across the table in the film's White House scenes. Cartier Tank
Worn by Leonardo DiCaprio as Randall Mindy. Mindy's small rectangular dress watch on a black leather strap arrives with his media makeover: the rumpled Michigan State astronomer wears it in his later appearances on the in-film talk show The Daily Rip, once celebrity has displaced the science. WatchReel names it a Tank Louis Cartier, but the available frames are too soft to resolve the crown cabochon or brancard profile that would settle which Tank it is. (WatchReel; Rubber B)

Richard Mille RM 052 Tourbillon Skull
Worn by Jonah Hill as Jason Orlean. President Orlean's son and chief of staff wears the skull-movement Richard Mille throughout the White House scenes; the uniform grey metal case and black rubber strap match the 21-piece titanium RM 052 of 2012 rather than the black-ceramic RM 52-01 that some spotting coverage names. The wrist piece itself was a fake: costume designer Susan Matheson said Hill asked to wear the watch and that she sourced a replica because a genuine example, "worth north of $600,000", could be stolen during shooting, a stand-in she considered true to the character.
