Gareth Edwards's 2014 reboot of Toho's monster for Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros., the first film of the Monsterverse, follows Lieutenant Ford Brody (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), a Navy explosive-ordnance officer who flies to Japan to bail out his father Joe (Bryan Cranston), a former plant engineer obsessed with the 1999 accident that killed his wife, and is caught up in the emergence of two parasitic MUTOs and the ancient creature that hunts them, with Ken Watanabe as Dr. Serizawa, Juliette Binoche as Sandra Brody and Elizabeth Olsen as Ford's wife Elle in San Francisco. Brody wears a large black digital watch with the Suunto Core's round composite case and four-button layout, posted as a frame on Uhrforum in August 2025 and identified there as a Suunto Core. The watch-spotting blog Best Watch Brands HQ named the execution as the Core Alu Deep Black in a 2014 post, an uncorroborated reading of the colourway; the frame supports the family, an altimeter-barometer-compass watch that fits an ordnance-disposal officer sent into the field, without resolving the aluminium bezel that would confirm the Alu Deep Black.
