Gran Torino (2008)

From IMWDb
Gran Torino

Gran Torino, directed by and starring Clint Eastwood, was released by Warner Bros. Pictures in December 2008. Eastwood plays Walt Kowalski, a widowed Korean War veteran and retired Ford line worker in a Detroit neighbourhood that has become Hmong, who is drawn into protecting his young neighbours Thao and Sue after Thao is pressured into trying to steal his 1972 Gran Torino. John Carroll Lynch appears as Walt's barber. (IMDb)

Watches

Hamilton (unidentified model)
Worn by Clint Eastwood as Walt Kowalski. Montres de Luxe identifies Walt's watch as a vintage Hamilton, probably from the 1960s, and names no model. (Montres de Luxe) The brand is the point of the costume choice rather than a specific reference: Walt spends the film refusing anything that is not American-made, down to the car in the garage, and Hamilton's Lancaster, Pennsylvania output is exactly the watch a man of his vintage and his convictions would have bought and never replaced. The irony is one the film does not spell out and the catalog can: by 2008 the Hamilton name had been Swiss for decades, part of the Swatch Group, so the American watch on his wrist was American only in the years it was made.
