A mysterious assassin known as the King of Killers murders a wealthy ex-Yakuza crime boss in Hong Kong, triggering a US$100 million bounty; a naive young fighter named Fu is drawn into the hunt for the killer's identity and a cache of wartime promissory notes tied to the dead man's fortune. - Worn by Jet Li as Fu. Fu's gold Rolex is a counterfeit by the film's own account. Lo presses it on him about 25 minutes in as a 24-carat, gold-plated, diamond-set piece issued to mark Hong Kong's return to China; Fu says he has never owned a watch before and now has a Rolex, and Lo tells him not to get excited because it is a fake, worth about $800 in Tsim Sha Tsui, to which Fu replies that he knew and that it is still the most expensive gift he has ever received. (Hitman, dialogue at about 25:00) Montres de Luxe identifies the watch as a yellow-gold Rolex Day-Date without a reference number, which describes the look the prop imitates rather than what the story says it is; its cast and plot describe the 1998 Stephen Tung Wai film, although the article misdates it to 1988 and reverses the director's name to "Wei Tung."
