Rolex (fake)
More actions
This "Rolex" is a fake: the page groups counterfeit props built to resemble a genuine gold-cased Rolex, generically, each identified as fake by its own production rather than an authentic example of Rolex's work. It is distinct from Rolex Daytona (fake) and Rolex Cellini (fake), which each catalog a counterfeit shaped after one specific Rolex line; the prop cataloged here is not identifiable as a Daytona, Datejust, Day-Date, or any other named execution. In Sea Fog, the fishing crew's smuggling run folds in a subplot trading counterfeit luxury goods, and Timeforum specialist Torino, captioning a screen capture of a gold-cased, fluted-bezel, President-bracelet watch clasped on a crew member's wrist, states plainly that the film's fake is a gold Rolex: "영화속 짝퉁이야기인데 역시 짝퉁은 로렉스 금딱지죠.." ("it's a fake-goods story in the film, and sure enough, the fake is a gold Rolex"), using "금딱지" ("gold-cased"), a Korean colloquialism naming the case material rather than any specific model. (Timeforum) Because the prop is a counterfeit, its real movement, materials, and dimensions are whatever unbranded parts its maker used; none of a genuine Rolex caliber, 18k gold alloy, or bracelet construction can honestly be credited to it. It stands in as luxury-watch shorthand for the smuggled counterfeit goods the crew traffics alongside their human cargo, not as a placement of an actual Rolex.
