Infernal Affairs, directed by Alan Mak Siu-Fai; Andrew Lau Wai-Keung, was released in 2002. Chan Wing Yan, a young police officer, has been sent undercover as a mole in the local mafia. Lau Kin Ming, a young mafia member, infiltrates the police force. Anthony Wong Chau-sang, Eric Tsang and Andy Lau co-star as, respectively, Chan's police handler Superintendent Wong Chi-shing, triad boss Hon Sam, and the adult Lau Kin-ming. (Wikipedia)
Watches
- Chronoswiss (unidentified model)
- Worn by Tony Leung Chiu-wai as Chan Wing-yan. Montres de Luxe identifies Chan's watch as a Chronoswiss Tora C123. (Montres de Luxe) A separate bbs.xbiao.com community thread instead describes this same scene's watch as a Revue Thommen CH 1323, a competing identification contradicted by the close-up described below. A contemporaneous watchbus.com trade piece corroborates the brand only: it names Chronoswiss as Infernal Affairs' official sponsor and states that all four principal leads wear the brand, without naming a model for any of them, so it does not resolve the model or the competing Revue Thommen attribution. (Watchbus) A fourth source, specialist watch-history blogger 石版的钟表工作, independently names the model "TORA" in describing Wong Sir's mid-life gift of a dual-time regulator-style watch to Chan Wing-yan for his birthday, agreeing with Montres de Luxe on the model name without confirming a case reference and without addressing the Revue Thommen claim. (石版的钟表工作; mirrored at Zhihu) A close-up of Chan checking the watch after waking in a chair shows "Chronoswiss" and "TORA C123" on the dial, supporting the Tora model and contradicting the Revue Thommen attribution. C123 is a calibre designation, not a case reference: Hampel's 2007 auction catalogue distinguishes Tora reference CH1323 from calibre C123. The dial alone does not establish the screen watch's case reference. (Hampel, June 2007 watch auction, lot 1460)
- Chronoswiss (unidentified model)
- Worn by Anthony Wong Chau-sang as Superintendent Wong Chi-shing. The same contemporaneous watchbus.com trade piece that identifies Chronoswiss as Infernal Affairs' official sponsor goes on to describe each of the four leads' watches individually, stating that Wong's character wears the same Tora dual-time model as Chan Wing-yan, distinguished by a black dial rather than a lighter one. The brand is well supported, resting on a sponsorship relationship the article traces directly, but the Tora identification itself is probable rather than confirmed: it comes from a single source with no frame comparison. (Watchbus)
- Chronoswiss (unidentified model)
- Worn by Eric Tsang' as Hon Sam. The same watchbus.com piece states that Tsang's character wears a Chronoswiss Opus, a skeletonized watch it credits with winning the German trade magazine Armband Uhrens 1996 Watch of the Year award on a Valjoux 7750 base movement finished and decorated in-house. The brand is well supported, resting on the same sponsorship relationship, but the Opus identification itself is probable rather than confirmed: it comes from a single source with no frame comparison. (Watchbus)
- Chronoswiss (unidentified model)
- Worn by Andy Lau as Lau Kin-ming. The same watchbus.com piece states that Lau's character wears a Chronoswiss Klassik Chronograph, a 1950s-styled chronograph with three subdials and a round date aperture at 3 o'clock. The brand is well supported, resting on the same sponsorship relationship, but the Klassik identification itself is probable rather than confirmed: it comes from a single source with no frame comparison. This is the adult Lau Kin-ming of this original 2002 film, a different character-age from the young Lau Kin-ming played by Edison Chen in flashback on Infernal Affairs II, who wears a Rolex Air-King rather than a Chronoswiss. (Watchbus) Specialist watch-history blogger 石版的钟表工作 independently corroborates that Lau's character wears a Chronoswiss automatic chronograph in this film, but hedges on which one, weighing whether it is a Lunar moonphase, an Observatoire chronometer, an Opus skeleton, or a Kairos, and does not mention the Klassik line watchbus.com names. The two sources therefore agree only that the character wears a Chronoswiss chronograph in this film, not on which model, leaving the model unresolved. (石版的钟表工作; mirrored at Zhihu)
- IWC GST
- Worn by Andy Lau as Lau Kin-ming. Specialist watch-history blogger 石版的钟表工作 identifies a titanium-cased IWC GST chronograph on the adult Lau Kin-ming during a scene of joint action with Superintendent Wong Chi-shing, noting that GST is IWC's own continuation line launched after its Porsche Design collaboration ended, its name standing for the three case metals, gold, steel, and titanium, the family was offered in. No specific reference is given, and no second source corroborates the sighting. (石版的钟表工作; mirrored at Zhihu)
- Seiko 5
- Worn by Gordon Lam as Big B. Specialist watch-history blogger 石版的钟表工作 identifies a Seiko 5 on Lam Ka-tung's "Big B", a minor character whose limited screen time belies his role in the plot's climactic reversal; the source argues the unglamorous, entry-level line suits the character precisely because he is not meant to draw attention. No reference or specific execution is given, and no second source corroborates the sighting. (石版的钟表工作; mirrored at Zhihu)Scene image neededSubmit a scene still!
- Rolex (unidentified model)
- Worn by Anthony Wong Chau-sang as Superintendent Wong Chi-shing. 石版的钟表工作 attributes a second, earlier watch to this character within this original 2002 film: a Rolex of unstated reference, described only as dive-style, worn when Superintendent Wong goes to the police academy to recruit the young Chan Wing-yan, distinct from the Chronoswiss the same character wears in the film's present-day scenes recorded in the appearance above. No model or reference is given, and no second source corroborates the sighting or confirms that the two watches are visually distinct on screen rather than a single imprecisely re-described appearance, so the identification is probable rather than confirmed.
