It's a Wonderful Life

A despairing small-town building-and-loan manager is shown by an angel what Bedford Falls would have become had he never been born. (Wikipedia) Frank Capra produced and directed it for his Liberty Films; James Stewart stars as George Bailey with Donna Reed as Mary, Lionel Barrymore as Mr. Potter, Thomas Mitchell as Uncle Billy and Henry Travers as the angel Clarence. RKO Radio Pictures premiered it in New York on December 20, 1946.

Watches

Unidentified watch
Worn by James Stewart as George Bailey. George wears a round-cased wristwatch on a plain leather strap on his left wrist through the Bedford Falls scenes, and checks it while feigning disinterest in Mary on the walk to the Hatch house after the graduation dance. The film is black and white; the colorized prints BAMF Style works from render the case gold and the strap brown, which establishes nothing about the metal. BAMF Style calls it almost certainly Stewart's personal watch and suggests it may have been an Elgin, since Stewart endorsed the Illinois maker around 1949, but no frame shows a signature or any other mark that would confirm a maker. (BAMF Style) The same watch is on his wrist with the double-breasted tweed suit of a second breakdown. (BAMF Style)
