James Stewart (1908–1997) was an American actor whose everyman decency anchored some of classic Hollywood's most enduring films, from Frank Capra's Mr. Smith Goes to Washington and It's a Wonderful Life to four collaborations with Alfred Hitchcock. He interrupted his career to fly bomber missions in the Second World War, retiring from the Air Force Reserve a brigadier general, and won an Academy Award for The Philadelphia Story. (Wikipedia)
