Chris Nahon's Paris-set action film, from a story by Jet Li and a screenplay by Luc Besson and Robert Mark Kamen, sends Chinese intelligence agent Liu Jian (Jet Li) to assist a French investigation, only for the corrupt inspector Richard (Tchéky Karyo) to frame him for murder and drive him into an alliance with Jessica (Bridget Fonda), a prostitute Richard controls. 20th Century Fox released it in July 2001. Worn by Jet Li as Liu Jian. The watch is a production copy rather than a Swatch product: Propstore's London 2021 live auction (November 2021) sold Liu's acupuncture wristlet and watch, both of which he "wore ... throughout the film", and describes the watch as "a facsimile Swatch® with a leather strap", alongside the leather wristlet of metal tubes whose needle kills Richard. Swatch is the design the facsimile imitates, not a placement; the essay names no model, and the leather strap departs from the plastic straps of the standard Swatch lines. (Propstore)
