Ex-LAPD detective Charlie Waldo, three years into an off-grid retirement built around minimizing his environmental footprint, is drawn back to Los Angeles to clear alcoholic television star Alastair Pinch of his wife's murder. (IMDb) Tim Kirkby directs, adapting Howard Michael Gould's 2018 novel of the same name; Charlie Hunnam plays Waldo opposite Mel Gibson as Pinch, with Morena Baccarin as Waldo's ex-flame Lorena Nascimento and Rupert Friend as Wilson Sikorsky, the network president protecting his studio's star asset.
Watches
- Kudoke Real Skeleton
- Worn by Rupert Friend as Wilson Sikorsky. Sikorsky, not Pinch, wears the watch; goading Waldo about it, Pinch asks, "Have you seen what this man wears? It costs more than the house I grew up in," and Sikorsky answers, "It's a Kudoke Skeleton; they only make 35 a year." The line and the watch recur three times across the film. Novelist Howard Michael Gould, searching online for "a unique and specific watch" to use as a plot clue while writing the 2018 source novel, found Kudoke's own site and wrote to the Kudokes directly; the production then borrowed the actual piece for filming. (Phillips, Revolution Watch) The screen-used watch, Kudoke's case no. 0216, returned to the maker after filming and sold at Phillips' New York Watch Auction: SEVEN for $20,160 against a $6,000-$12,000 estimate, bundled with a script and novel signed by Hunnam and Gould, with proceeds supporting reforestation.
