Mel Gibson is an American actor and filmmaker raised in Australia, trained at the National Institute of Dramatic Art. He became an action star as Max Rockatansky in the Mad Max films and Martin Riggs in the Lethal Weapon series, first drawing acclaim in Gallipoli (1981), and later moved into directing historical films through his company Icon Entertainment.
