André Cayatte's courtroom drama, adapted from a novel by Simone and Jean Cornec. In the small Normandy village of Chateauneuf, schoolteacher Jean Doucet is accused by a pupil of attempted rape; as the investigation widens, two more girls come forward with escalating claims, and Doucet, still protesting his innocence, is engulfed by the village's rush to judgment before the truth can be sorted from rumor. Jacques Brel stars in his first film role, opposite Emmanuelle Riva and Christine Fabréga. (IMDb)
