Stanton Carlisle takes the gold watch from his dying father and keeps it on his wrist from the carnival to Buffalo society, the one thing he does not leave behind. Assistant prop master Maria Simonelli told Hodinkee it is a 14-karat gold Hamilton Hastings from about 1928, that the production held one hero watch and three more for stunts and wider shots, that Cooper noticed within minutes when he was handed a substitute after the hero watch's crystal broke, and that Guillermo del Toro kept the hero watch when filming ended. (Hodinkee) BAMF Style describes the squared off-white dial with gold numerals and a square seconds register at six o'clock, on a textured brown leather strap, and notes that Pete reads the case aloud as brass, not gold, when he handles it. (BAMF Style) Hodinkee credits props to Christopher Geggie, with Simonelli assisting, and quotes the exchange over the substitute watch: Cooper asked "Is this the original watch?" and, told it had broken that day, said "we have to get me the original", to which del Toro laughed, "I can't believe he noticed". Hamilton's product page for the American Classic Lady Hamilton Vintage Quartz H31231113 credits the watch to Molly Cahill, played by Rooney Mara: a tiny yellow-coated cocktail watch with a mother-of-pearl dial on a chain bracelet, the style of the 1930s and 1940s in which the film is set, though the reference itself is a current model and Hamilton's credit names the watch it supplied rather than a period piece. It is Hamilton's only per-character credit for the film; the vintage Hastings on Bradley Cooper's Carlisle rests on the prop department's account. (Hamilton)
