Oliver Stone's three-hour portrait of the 37th president casts Anthony Hopkins as Richard Nixon and Joan Allen as Pat Nixon, framing Watergate through flashbacks to his Quaker boyhood, his defeats by Kennedy and in California and the taped presidency that undid him, with James Woods, Powers Boothe, Paul Sorvino and Bob Hoskins as the men around him. Hollywood Pictures and Cinergi released it in December 1995; Hopkins and Allen were both nominated for Academy Awards. (IMDb)
Watches
- Corum Coin Watch
- Worn by Anthony Hopkins as Richard Nixon. The watch is a production-made replica of a Corum, not a Corum: Propstore's Planet Hollywood online auction (June 2025) sold the coin watch Nixon "wore ... with a $20 gold coin as its face throughout the rise and fall of his presidency", describing it as "Designed by production to replicate the appearance of the coin watches famously made by Corum", functional, with "a faux gold face engraved ‘United States of America Twenty’ with an eagle emblem and an Apollo black leather strap", previously displayed in Room 1101 of the Planet Hollywood Resort in Las Vegas. Corum's Coin Watch, which the real Nixon received as a gift, is the design basis; the prop's faux-gold face and third-party strap are the visible departures, and the essay's reading of the Double Eagle as an allusion to Nixon's 1971 suspension of the gold standard is the auction house's own.
