Luca Guadagnino directs Justin Kuritzkes's adaptation of William S. Burroughs's novella, set in 1950s Mexico City and Ecuador, in which the expatriate writer William Lee (Daniel Craig) becomes infatuated with Eugene Allerton (Drew Starkey), a young ex-serviceman new to the city; Jason Schwartzman and Lesley Manville also appear. Gruen Veri-Thin Pan American

Worn by Drew Starkey as Eugene Allerton. Prop master Matt Marks told British GQ that Allerton wears a 1944 Gruen Veri-Thin Pan American pilot's watch, chosen because the real Lewis Marker, on whom Burroughs based the character, had served in military intelligence; Bonhams's Jonathan Darracott, consulted by the magazine, describes the film's watches as deliberately modest period pieces. The magazine notes the line's 24-hour dial and publishes Marks's own photograph of the watch on Starkey's wrist, on a leather strap. No reference is given. (British GQ)
