Shin Godzilla (シン・ゴジラ) is a 2016 Japanese film directed by Hideaki Anno and Shinji Higuchi, the 29th entry in Toho's Godzilla series and the franchise's first Japanese-produced film in twelve years. Released July 29, 2016, it depicts the Japanese government's chaotic, procedure-bound response to Godzilla's sudden emergence in Tokyo Bay. Ren Osugi plays Prime Minister Kiyotsugu Okochi, and Akira Emoto plays Chief Cabinet Secretary Ryuta Azuma, both members of the cabinet racing to organize a response before Godzilla reaches Tokyo.
