Kim Jee-woon directed this South Korean period espionage thriller (Korean: 밀정, "Secret Agent"), set in 1920s Japanese-occupied Korea. Japanese police captain Lee Jung-chool, himself a former independence fighter, is assigned to infiltrate and destroy the Heroic Corps resistance cell run by antique dealer and photographer Kim Woo-jin (Gong Yoo), who is smuggling explosives from Shanghai to Gyeongseong (present-day Seoul) to sabotage Japanese installations. The film premiered at the 73rd Venice International Film Festival on September 3, 2016, opened domestically four days later, and became South Korea's submission for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Watches
- Elgin watch
- Worn by Gong Yoo as Kim Woo-jin. Seoul retailer abbawatch.co.kr (아빠시계), which states in first person that it supplied the watch, credits Gong Yoo's resistance leader Kim Woo-jin with a vintage Elgin, explicitly naming it a Swiss brand in the listing's own phrasing: "배우 공유 님 영화 '밀정' 스위스 브랜드 엘진 시계 협찬" (actor Gong Yoo, film "The Age of Shadows," Swiss-brand Elgin watch sponsored). No specific reference or execution is given, so the appearance is recorded at the family level; Elgin was in fact an American maker, not Swiss, a mismatch the retailer's own listing does not resolve.
