Martin Scorsese's biographical drama for Miramax Films. The film follows aviation pioneer and filmmaker Howard Hughes from the late 1920s through the 1940s, tracking his aircraft ventures, his Hollywood productions, his romances, and his escalating struggle with obsessive-compulsive disorder. The Dodson is a late-1930s Hamilton dress watch, made from 1938 to 1948: the 17-jewel manual-wind 987A in a 10-karat gold-filled tonneau case with a stepped, high-polished bezel, $40 new. The film's Hughes-versus-Trippe years fall inside that run, which puts a correctly dated watch on the Pan Am chairman; Hamilton does not say which dial.
