The Endless Summer is Bruce Brown's 1966 surf documentary, narrated by Brown, which follows the California surfers Mike Hynson and Robert August around the world chasing summer through Senegal, Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Tahiti and Hawaii, finding a then-unknown break at Cape St. Francis on the way. Shot on 16 mm and released on 15 June 1966, it took surfing to a mainstream audience and was added to the National Film Registry in 2002. (IMDb) (Wikipedia)
Watches
- Dacor dive watch
- Worn by Mike Hynson as Himself. Hynson wears a dive watch that is clearly and repeatedly in shot through the film, a round diver on a strap. A Horlogeforum.nl member posted a frame and identified it as the Dacor 600, comparing it with a catalogue image of the model from the Illinois scuba-equipment maker, whose watches, he notes, were almost certainly made for it by another manufacturer. The frame resolves the brand's dive-watch design but no caseback or reference, so the row rests on the family page; the model reading is that one member's.
