The Son of the Sheik

Rudolph Valentino's final film, released a few weeks before his sudden death in August 1926. In a dual role, Valentino plays both the aging desert chieftain Ahmed Ben Hassan, hero of The Sheik (1921), and his grown son Ahmed, who falls for dancer Yasmin (Vilma Bánky) only to be captured and tortured by her father's gang of bandits, driving him toward vengeance before the two reconcile. Montres de Luxe reports that Valentino, an avid watch collector off-screen, convinced director George Fitzmaurice to let him keep his personal Cartier Tank on his wrist for the shoot, calling it probably one of the earliest appearances of a luxury watch in a feature film.
