Topaz is Alfred Hitchcock's 1969 Cold War espionage thriller, adapted from Leon Uris's novel of the same name and released in France as L'étau. French agent André Devereaux (Frederick Stafford) is drawn into the defection of a Soviet official and a missile crisis in Cuba, working alongside American liaison Michael Nordstrom (John Forsythe) while the mole hunt back in Paris implicates his own government contact, Jacques Granville (Michel Piccoli) and journalist Henri Jarre (Philippe Noiret).
