Heart-Shaped Box is a 1993 music video by Nirvana, the lead single from the band's third and final studio album In Utero, released August 30, 1993 on DGC Records. Directed by Anton Corbijn from a script Kurt Cobain largely wrote himself, the video intercuts Cobain performing against a star-spangled backdrop with surreal tableaux, an elderly crucified Santa Claus figure, fetuses hanging from a tree, and a girl in a Klan-style robe, shot in color and hand-tinted to mimic early Technicolor. Heritage Auctions, which twice offered Cobain's personal watch at auction (2008 and 2009) with a notarized letter from Kat Bjelland, documents it as the only watch Cobain wore and states it appears in this video; no frame of the video itself resolves the dial legibly enough to confirm the identification independently, so it rests on the auctioned object and its documented provenance rather than on the transfer.
