Kamen Rider Kuuga (仮面ライダークウガ) is the tenth series in Toei and Ishimori Productions' Kamen Rider franchise and the first of the Heisei era, made with Asatsu-DK and broadcast on TV Asahi from January 30, 2000 to January 21, 2001, the first Rider series shot for widescreen. Yusuke Godai, a cheerful drifter with two thousand skills, puts on the ancient Arcle belt to become Kuuga and fight the Grongi, a tribe who murder for sport in a ritual game called the Gegeru, gaining new forms as the belt's amadam stone adapts; the show's police-procedural tone and its refusal to call its hero a Rider on screen reset the franchise for a new century.
