Luck is an HBO drama created by Deadwood writer David Milch and set at the Santa Anita racetrack, where a gangster just out of prison, Chester "Ace" Bernstein (Dustin Hoffman), plots his revenge through a racehorse held in his driver's name. Michael Mann directed the pilot, which HBO aired as a preview on 11 December 2011 ahead of the formal series premiere on 29 January 2012; the network cancelled the series on 14 March 2012 after a third horse died in production, and the nine-episode first season finished airing on 25 March 2012. Dennis Farina plays Gus Demitriou, John Ortiz the trainer Turo Escalante, Nick Nolte the veteran trainer Walter Smith and Kerry Condon the apprentice jockey Rosie, with Richard Kind, Kevin Dunn, Ian Hart, Ritchie Coster, Jason Gedrick, Gary Stevens, Tom Payne and Jill Hennessy. - Rolex Daytona
- Worn by John Ortiz as Turo Escalante. Watches in Movies lists a yellow-gold Rolex Cosmograph Daytona, reference 116528, on Escalante in episode 4 (first aired 19 February 2012), from a reader submission with no frame or reasoning published; no other source records the watch, so the identification rests on that catalog and the reference is not treated as settled. (Watches in Movies) In a season-one frame published with Blu-ray.com's review of the first-season disc, Escalante sits in his barn office across from Ace and Gus with a yellow-gold bracelet watch on his left wrist, seen edge-on under the cuff of a striped pink shirt; the case and dial are not resolved, which is consistent with a gold Daytona but does not confirm one.
