Sarah quietly has Joel's broken watch repaired and gives it back to him for his birthday on the night the outbreak begins; after her death Joel wears it through Seasons 1 and 2 with the crystal shattered and never replaced, the series' quietest marker of what he lost; where the game's Sarah buys a new watch, the show's Sarah restores his old one. The prop is a custom build for the HBO production with no commercial equivalent, following the field-watch design Naughty Dog created for the game: plain steel case of roughly 38 mm, black dial with Arabic numerals, small seconds at 6 o'clock, and an olive NATO strap. Mortima Super Datomatic

Worn by Gabriel Luna as Tommy Miller. Probable identification: the steel skin diver Tommy wears around the Jackson settlement (chromed cushion case, coin-edge black rotating bezel, dark dial with luminous plots) matches the vintage Mortima Super Datomatic, the 1960s–70s budget French diver Cattin & Cie built in Morteau with hand-wound pin-pallet movements, an identification reported by watchreel; the dial text is never legible on screen, so the exact execution rests on the visible case and bezel architecture.
