The A-11 is a specification the United States military adopted during the Second World War for a standardized field watch, rather than a single manufacturer's model: a black dial with white Arabic numerals and a sweep seconds hand, a plain steel case, and a hacking movement built to a common government requirement. Bulova, Elgin, and Waltham all produced watches to the A-11 spec, issued to pilots, navigators, and ground troops across the war's theaters, so a screen-worn example is generally identifiable only to the standard itself unless the dial signature or caseback marking is legible.
