A Benrus watch is a watch from the Benrus Watch Company, founded in New York in 1921 by the Romanian-born Benjamin Lazrus and his brothers, first as a repair shop and then as a maker of watches built on Swiss movements. Its field and diver's watches were worn by U.S. forces from the Second World War through Korea and Vietnam. (Wikipedia) Watch production wound down by the late 1970s.
Literary mention
Steve Sohmer names a Benrus for the aging FBI agent Joe Mancuso in Favorite Son, its crystal so scratched that he can barely read the hands. The photograph shows a manual-wind Benrus of that era as a representative example. (Wikimedia Commons)
