CWC Stopwatch
More actions
A CWC stopwatch is not a wristwatch. Cabot Watch Company supplied its earliest documented stopwatches to the Department of Health and Social Security in 1973, then furnished hand-held timers to the Ministry of Defence under 6645-99 NATO stock numbers. They came in distinct specifications, from a fifth-second timer to an ASDIC sonar timer whose six-second sweep converted echo delay into range. The movements were Heuer's. The example photographed is the fifth-second pattern, its white dial carrying the broad arrow and the oval CWC mark. Military work was never the whole market: hundreds went to BBC and ITV newsrooms, where a mechanical timer was standard kit, which is why a professional holds one rather than wears it. (CWC)
