Chanel J12 Superleggera
More actions
The Chanel J12 Superleggera is a chronograph variant of the ceramic J12 sports line that Chanel introduced in 2005, taking its name, Italian for "super light," from the lightweight coachbuilding tradition that inspired Jacques Helleu's original J12 design. (Blackbird Watch Manual) Where the standard J12 chronograph is solid ceramic, the Superleggera pairs a black ceramic case and bezel with aluminum bracelet links and bezel trim to shed weight, driving a COSC-certified automatic chronograph built on the ETA 2894-2 base with a silvered dial, twin sub-registers, and a date window. (Motion in Time) Chanel later revived the Superleggera name in the 2020s on an unrelated titanium-ceramic case with its own in-house-adjacent Kenissi calibre 12.1, a materially different watch from the 2005-era ceramic-and-aluminum originals.
