Chanel Première
More actions
The Chanel Première was Chanel's first watch, launched in 1987 under artistic director Jacques Helleu. Its octagonal case takes its outline directly from the Place Vendôme, the square where Chanel's own headquarters and Gabrielle Chanel's suite at the Ritz both sit, while the interlaced double chain bracelet echoes the faceted stopper of the No. 5 perfume bottle, tying the watch to two of the house's most recognizable design signatures. (The Jewellery Editor) Conceived as a jewellery watch rather than a technical one, it arrived at a moment when fashion houses were beginning to treat the wristwatch as a couture accessory, and the line has run continuously since in expanding sizes, metals, and complications.
