An Elgin steel trench watch is a small, hand-wound wristwatch from the Elgin National Watch Company's early-20th-century military-adjacent production, the wrist-worn successor to the WWI-era pocket watch soldiers strapped to their wrists in the field. Cased in steel rather than the gold and gold-filled examples Elgin also produced, with an aged beige or "tropical" dial and applied black Arabic numerals, the type is common enough that surviving examples vary in case shape (round, cushion, or tonneau/barrel) and movement grade without a single reference distinguishing them.
