The Fossil Defender is a name Fossil has returned to repeatedly for its sturdier sports and field watches: collectors' catalog records trace an original DE-1500 series of 42 models launched in May 1995, a dearer DF-series second line from 1999, interchangeable-strap DEC models in 2014 and 2015, a 2019 limited edition and six solar-powered FS-series Defenders in 2023. (Underground Fossil Collectors Club) Bob Arctor's watch in A Scanner Darkly belongs to one of the earlier generations: Propstore sold the screen-used piece as "a brown leather and metal Fossil Defender watch labeled '04 Keanu' on the backside", and the rotoscoped film could never resolve which; the lot names the line but no style number.
