Hanhart Vintage Chronograph
More actions
The vintage Hanhart chronographs of the 1940s and 1950s descend from the Calibre 40, the single-pusher movement that in 1938 carried Hanhart, then Europe's largest stopwatch maker, into series wristwatch chronograph production, and from the two-pusher flyback Calibre 41 that followed in 1939. (Hanhart) Built as pilot instruments for Luftwaffe and Kriegsmarine crews, they set large luminous Arabic numerals on black dials (many signed "17 Steine", the German jewel-count notation), with constant-seconds and 30-minute registers, long cylindrical pushers workable in gloves, and an oversized fluted crown; some carried the red-lacquered reset pusher, a guard against wiping a running measurement, that remains Hanhart's signature today. (Hanhart, Timeplex) Postwar production from Gütenbach in the Black Forest kept the same design language. (Timeplex)
