The IWC Ingenieur 866A is part of the second-generation Ingenieur family IWC introduced in 1967 alongside the date-equipped 866AD, enlarging reference 666's case to 37 mm on the automatic 854/8541 caliber family, retaining the soft-iron inner case that shields the movement to 80,000 A/m. (Watch Wiki) A 1970 renumbering by movement rather than case made this the no-date reference 1908 (866AD became 1808); the older numbers lived on for solid-gold cases until Gérald Genta's Ingenieur SL replaced the line in 1976.
