Omega Seamaster Chronograph 176.005
More actions
The Omega Seamaster Chronograph reference 176.005 is a steel automatic chronograph built from 1972 to 1976 around the calibre 1040, Omega's first automatic chronograph movement, co-developed with Lemania and fitted with a ball-bearing-mounted rotor. Its cushion-shaped steel case, nicknamed the "TV case" for its rounded-square profile, houses a 42 mm dial with a tachymeter track, a combined 12-hour/24-hour subdial at 9 with blue accents, a 30-minute counter at 6, and a date window at 3; Omega produced roughly 8,500 steel examples against 5,500 gold-plated 176.005 MD versions before the line was superseded. (Chronopedia) A 2007 Antiquorum auction catalogue mislabeled a related Lemania-based Seamaster as the "Seamaster Jedi," a nickname collectors have since mistakenly extended to the whole calibre-1040 family including the 176.005. (Chronopedia) Jackroad, the Tokyo watch and jewelry retailer that lent Taiketsu its wardrobe pieces, credits actor Kenjiro Ishimaru with wearing this reference in the NHK premium drama. (Jackroad)
