Modelgold watch

A gold-cased Swiss dress watch, held in close-up by Benedict Cumberbatch as Stephen Hawking in Hawking (2004). The dial reads OMER above a second, smaller line the frame does not resolve, with applied Arabic numerals alternating with faceted baton indices. Omer was a trade name rather than a manufacture, registered in 1945 by Otto Maire SA of Longeau and used through the 1940s and 1950s on compact hand-wound dress watches of 31 to 32 mm (Antiques Atlas), a window that fits a film opening in January 1963. The watch is handled rather than worn, turned over in the fingers in a story about time running out. The insert gives no model or reference, and cannot settle whether the case is solid gold, gold-filled or plated.
