The Orfina Porsche Design Chronograph 1 (reference 7176S) is the watch Ferdinand Alexander Porsche designed in 1972 to match the all-black dashboard instrumentation of his own 911, reasoning that a black case and dial would not dazzle the eye the way polished steel could. Orfina manufactured it with an outside PVD coater blackening the case and bracelet, making it the first commercially available all-black wristwatch; the tonneau case houses a Valjoux 7750-based day-date chronograph movement under a tachymeter bezel. Early examples carry both the Orfina and Porsche Design names before the "pd" logo alone took over from 1977. (Wikipedia)
