The Panerai Luminor 5218-201/A is a "pre-Vendôme" Luminor, made in the short window after Panerai opened its military supply business to the public in 1993 and before Vendôme, now Richemont, bought the firm in 1997. The 44 mm steel cushion case carries the Luminor signature, a bridge over the winding crown with a lever that clamps it down against its seal, and the black sandwich dial shows luminous Arabic numerals at twelve, three, six, and nine with no seconds display. Driving it is the hand-wound cal. 6497.
Sylvester Stallone wore the reference as Kit Latura in Daylight (1996), and his enthusiasm for the brand is the usual explanation for Panerai's move from an obscure Italian supplier to a mainstream name. Phillips sold the screen-worn example, case no. 0764, in December 2020, on its original sharkskin strap, describing it as the exact watch Stallone wore throughout the film.
