The Panerai Luminor Marina is the watch that carried Officine Panerai from a Florentine supplier of Italian navy instruments into a civilian brand, launched to the public in 1993 and built around two things the eye reads instantly: a broad cushion case of around 44 mm, and the patented crown-protecting bridge, a half-moon lever that clamps a shaped guard down over the winding crown to seal it. The "Marina" designation marks the sandwich dial with a small seconds register at nine, the layout Panerai had used on its wartime commando watches; the modern line runs from the pre-Vendome references through the PAM numbering Richemont introduced, in steel, titanium and black PVD, with movements from Unitas-based hand-wound calibres to Panerai's own P.9000 family.
