The Polar FT4 is a fitness heart-rate training watch that the Finnish sports-electronics maker Polar introduced around 2009 for everyday exercisers rather than dress wear. Worn with a WearLink chest strap, it receives the transmitter's heart-rate signal and displays it live, guiding the user to stay inside a personal target zone based on age or maximum heart rate, while tallying the kilocalories burned in a session. A quartz watch at its core, it also keeps the date and a second time zone, stores recent training files, and takes a user-replaceable battery; it is sealed well enough to be worn while swimming.
