Its resin-shrouded case carries a black elapsed-time bezel, black dial, luminous baton hands and markers, a red-tipped central seconds hand, date at three, gold Q emblem, and an integrated ribbed resin strap. The catalog priced it at $29.95 and grouped it with water-resistant sports models, disposable-money territory beside the contemporary Swiss dive watches whose visual language it borrowed. "Black Max" was not one enduring reference but a recurring Timex sales name used for several blacked-out watches; the 1988 catalog retained 42911 while replacing the gold Q with a conventional Timex wordmark, making the 1987 dial a useful dating cue.
