The Timex Ironman is a line of shock- and water-resistant resin sports watches Timex introduced in 1986, named for the Ironman triathlon and built around lap memory, a countdown timer and a night-readable display. The original Ironman Triathlon paired an eight-lap chronograph memory with a 100 m rating and a chunky grey-and-black case; later Indiglo electroluminescent illumination, added across the range in the mid-1990s, became the line's signature. Positioned as an affordable training tool, it became one of the best-selling sport watches in the United States, which is why costume departments reach for it when a character should read as practical rather than moneyed. Individual executions run from the Timex Ironman Triathlon 8 Lap T5H941 to the Timex Ironman Classic 30.
